Molecular Biology Professional Development for Teachers at JABSOM
(Presented in partnership with JABSOM’s Center for Cardiovascular Research)

For Educators

AHEC has a wide range of programs available to assist educators. It is our goal that these programs will help teachers inspire their students to love science and encourage them to pursue health careers. For more information on the programs below, please contact us at ahec@hawaii.edu or (808) 692-1060.

Speakers Bureau

We have a database of over 100 health professionals who are excited about the opportunity to visit K-12 classrooms and school fairs to discuss their career with students. Teachers just tell us the date/time/which health profession they are interested in and we take care of the logistics. (All Grades)

Tours of JABSOM

We coordinate school tours of SimTiki, the Cancer Center, the Anatomy Lab and the Center for Clinical Skills. A “Discover JABSOM” scavenger hunt activity is also available.

Teacher Workshops

Please contact us for future dates of teacher workshops. Usually available once in the Fall and the Spring. (All Grades)

Funds/Classroom Resources

The HiSCI program has periodic Request for Proposal (RFP) announcements that include funds available through a mini-grant application process (up to $2,500 per teacher per year) to provide resources for classrooms. We are also providing science/health teaching equipment for teachers through a statewide borrowing system (http://stempreacademy.hawaii.edu). Molecular biology or other K-12 science kits would ship free of charge for teachers to use and then return. (All Grades)
