Join us this summer for 10 hands-on clay anatomy workshops by Starla Ewan! Oahu workshops will be held at the John A. Burns School of medicine from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. Following each clay workshop, we will be having a related lab activity or be joined by a speaker in a related career field.

Eligible to all students High school and up on Oahu. Deadline to register is May 20th, 2022.

Workshop Schedule

June 7 (Tuesday):  The magic of the DNA molecule!  Where does it come from and what exactly does it do for a cell?

June 8 (Wednesday): Cell structure determines function.  Learn to recognize the body’s logic of placing a specific structure of cells in specific organ structures.  Examine what happens when the structure changes and becomes cancerous.

June 9 (Thursday): Build the computer that runs your body! The brain runs the show by wiring up all the body systems to function together to maintain homeostasis.

June 28 (Tuesday): Skeleton & Muscles…they make movement together! Learn to “read” a bone and how its relationship with skeletal muscles produce movement.

June 29 (Wednesday):  Seeing Eye to Eye! Build the structures of the eye and how they capture an image for your brain.

June 30 (Thursday): The Beat goes On! Build the heart and learn some of its secretes to make it last a life time!

July 12 (Tuesday):  Blood is the Ultimate Connective Tissue! Build blood vessels and look at important components of the blood’s ability to deliver nutrients to cells.

July 13 (Wednesday):  The air that we breath in! Build the components of the respiratory system and understand the gas exchange process. 

July 26 (Tuesday):  Eating does not always mean Feeding! Build the major organs of the gastrointestinal system and examine how nutrient absorption results in strong healthy cells throughout your body. 

July 28 (Thursday):   How do White Blood Cells know Who’s Who? Build the components of your immune system and gain understanding of how your WBCs work together to protect you!
